2021 GMC Truck Capabilities | Clinton Township, MI

Jim Causley Buick GMC Truck knows you want the latest and greatest trucks on the market with the biggest and mightiest capabilities. The 2021 GMC truck lineup certainly delivers, and you can see just how powerful the Canyon, Sierra, and Sierra HD are by reading more below.

Canyon

Though the Canyon is the smallest pickup in the GMC truck lineup, it offers a mighty feast of performance for those who value agility and flexibility. The compact pickup has a stunning three-engine lineup that lets you choose between the standard 2.5-liter I4 powertrain, an optional 3.6-liter V6, and a 2.8-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine. The punchy standard powertrain produces 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque, while the upgraded 3.6-liter V6 gas engine propels the Canyon to its maximum 308 horsepower and an impressive 275 lb-ft of torque. The cream of the crop Canyon engine is the 2.8-liter Duramax diesel, which not only has the highest torque rating of the lineup with 369 lb-ft but also gets the best highway gas mileage at 30 mpg and the highest towing capacity with 7,700 pounds.[1]

Sierra 1500

GMC’s flagship truck is the Sierra 1500, a light-duty pickup that will dutifully serve those who work hard and play harder. The popular pickup is highly customizable, and can be configured with one of five basic powertrains: a 4.3-liter V6, a 2.7-liter turbo, a 5.3-liter EcoTec 3 V8 (with and without Dynamic or Active Fuel Management), a 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel, and a 6.2-liter EcoTec 3 V8 (with and without Auto Stop/Start). The Sierra 1500’s output ranges from 285 horsepower on its standard 4.3-liter engine to 420 horsepower on its 6.2-liter V8. Both the 6.2-liter V8 and the 3.0-liter Turbo-Diesel engine serve up the Sierra’s model-topping 460 lb-ft of torque, though even the standard 4.3-liter engine produces a whopping 305 lb-ft of torque. When equipped with the Max Trailering Package, the Sierra 1500 is rated to tow up to 11,800 pounds of cargo. The Sierra also has a payload capacity that ranges between 1,550-2,170 pounds.

Sierra HD

The 2021 Sierra HD is available in both 2500 and 3500 configurations depending on how much power you need. Both configurations allow you to choose between a gasoline and diesel variant of the Sierra’s impressive 6.6-liter V8 engine. The gasoline V8 produces 464 lb-ft of torque and 401 horsepower. When equipped with the Turbo-Diesel version of the 6.6-liter V8, the Sierra HD is capable of producing 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque. As expected, the brawny Sierra HD can handle a ton of payload – or, more accurately, over three tons of payload with the 3500 Denali’s 6,610-pound capacity. The Sierra HD can tow up to 20,000 pounds of cargo with its conventional hitch, but the heavy-duty pickup’s biggest draw is that it is capable of supporting the fifth wheel and gooseneck towing when properly equipped. With fifth-wheel/gooseneck hitch accessories, the Sierra HD can tow a best-in-class 36,000 pounds of cargo.

Accessories

The GMC truck lineup is already more powerful than its competitors, but you can help the performance of your Canyon or Sierra reach even greater heights by equipping accessories. For instance, you can take the guesswork out of towing with the available Mobile Tow Scale that provides a real-time readout of your trailer’s weight to avoid potential safety hazards. You can also augment your truck’s capabilities by equipping special carriers for skis, bikes, canoes, surfboards, and kayaks. If you like to live a little dangerously, you can also opt for the AT4 trim of the Canyon or Sierra to add off-roading features like all-terrain tires, recovery hooks, skid plates, and two-speed transfer cases.
